Currently living - residing in New Braunfels TX
I was non-rated, working in admin department onboard the USS Coral Sea. I read in Link Magazine about a rating that only had shore duty billets. I put in my chit and became an airman. I applied to take the rating exam, passed (highest score in the fleet - the only TD) and became TD3. When I came back from leave, I got orders to NAS Chase.
I was not warmly greeted by the other TDs and had to work at the chow hall for the first 90 days. Then I mowed the lawn a lot over at the training department. Eventually I started working as an instructor on the 2F90 and in a while I moved to the maintenance shop and worked mids and nights on the 2F101 simulators. I was made rate (and was frocked) to TD2 and became the day check supervisor.
I was recruited as a computer technician right out of the maintenance shop so I had a job the day that I left Beeville. I worked as a tech for ~5 years. Briefly had my own computer service business in Houston. I got a job and became a technical manager in 1988. I have been in tecnical management since.
I graduated with a BusAdmin degree in 2003. I am currently completing my MBA. I have 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren.
I play golf with another former TD from Beeville and keep in touch with about 5 more. TDs are great to network with since many have been successful in private industry.
